Or in Europe that would be written out as 21/12/2012. Either way it means December 21, 2012. The Mayans were a scary group of people. There is not doubt that this end date worries us. According to “interpretations” they received their information from an outside source. (UFO or Alien). The “Kukulcan” (as he was called) provided the Mayans with their astronomical information. Who was this guy? The Mayans described him as a tall white man who came from the sea. Some people argue that the Mayans were only predicting the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one. But, maybe the Mayans knew the date that Wormwood was going to hit the earth.

Something I’ve been wondering about…well, just recently I guess. Is why were the Mayans so obsessed with time. They made this really incredible 3-d version of a calendar in a pyramid and had it set up so the summer solstice allows the shadows to make a snakes body come from the top of the pyramid down to the bottom where a snakes head is and then this supposedly represents their God coming to earth and going to the underground…or something.
But what if they were so obsessed with astronomy and the stars that they actually made a warning of a meteor strike? The snake could be a symbol a meteor coming and striking the earth couldn’t it?
But anyway..back to what I was originally getting at.
The Mayans were obsessed with time. But isn’t time a concept created by mankind? In the larger scale of the Universe does time exist in the same manner that we have come to know it?
God is outside of time and isn’t limited to our belief or our concept of the passing of time. So by stating that the world would end on December 21st of 2012 weren’t the Mayans just basically full of crap? I mean, what makes what they…these jungle dwelling natives who believed human sacrifice was a means of feeding the sun to give it sustenance to make its travel back around the earth anymore informed about what is going to happen on 2012 then say, anyone on the street with a laptop and an imagination?
Personally, I feel that 2012 is just a number. It’s a way to get people to buy merchandise and register with forums but other then that it’s bogus and nothing will happen simply because it’s the more logical choice to take.
If Jesus would have actually said to his followers…verily verily I say unto you I will return at 3 p.m. on December 25th 2010 for a surprise birthday party. I would have probably said bullsh*t you’re a false prophet. But he never came right out and pinpointed a time for his second coming. He just said I’m going to come back and when I do the world will end…and a new world will begin. That leaves a lot of room for speculation, sure. But then he tossed in references to pay attention to the changes of the earth…increase in earthquakes, the tossing and rolling of the seas, volcanoes, floods, economic downfall, famine, disease..
and even said to watch for signs in the heavens. He even went further to give us information regarding the leadership of the world etc.etc.
So even though he didn’t actually use time as a basic reference for his predictions for the end times, as the Mayans did, he did give us the clues to his return. Not June 5th of 2098 at noon. But when the earth begins to go through these changes…
Logic dictates this would be a more sincere prediction to look forward to coming true then that of blood thirsty savages with the ability to make a calendar.

Within another year or so, the world’s population will start paying more attention to the approaching 2012 galactic alignment theory. Religious zealots will stand on mountaintops, every ill-balanced human on the face of the earth will creep out of their cocoons and induce a state of panic with doomsday rhetoric, Republicans and Democrats will start blaming each other for any predicted disasters, and scientists will be thrilled just to be part of it all. The thought of an astronomical phenomenon taking place during one’s lifetime is a bit intimidating, reminding man of his inability to control everything; however, does the scientific community support all the negative speculation?
Many web sites are posting 2012 doomsday information; although some of the scientific data is accurate, the predicted results that some sites post is primarily speculation, causing unnecessary fear and terror. Knowing the facts and the possible, not probable, results can ease the anxiety that is always present when facing the unknown.
Being familiar with the scientific terminology when reading about or listening to astronomical explanations is the first step in understanding, which is also the first step in reducing the fear associated with such events. The following is a short list of these terms:
• Alignment – the positioning of objects to form a straight line.
• Equinox – event happening twice a year when the sun crosses the equator of the earth.
• Precession of the equinoxes – the earth’s wobbling on its axis, shifting its position by one degree every 71.5 years, slightly changing its relationship to the other body masses in the galaxy.
• Summer Solstice – June 21 when the sun is at its most northern point causing it to be the longest day of the year.
• Winter Solstice – December 21, when the sun it at its most southern point causing it to the shortest day of the year.
• Solar System – a star or sun with planets rotating around it in uniform cycles.
• Milky Way Galaxy – stars, planets, and other heavenly masses contained within one system.
• Equator – an imaginary line denoting the center between north and south of a body mass. The earth’s equator runs around the center of earth separating the northern section of the planet from the southern section of the planet. The equator of the Milky Way galaxy is also an imaginary line separating the northern and southern sections of the galaxy.
• Solar Flare – Similar to a volcano on the earth, a solar flare is an eruption on the sun’s surface releasing a large amount of heat and particles. This occurrence is also known as solar weather and solar storms.
• Sunspots – regions on the sun where magnetic activity is extreme.
According to most scientists, the Milky Way galaxy is depicted as a somewhat disc-shaped mass containing stars, planets, and other heavenly bodies. The stars, planets and other heavenly masses move above and below the galactic center. According to NASA scientists, our solar system rotates around the center of the galaxy in a nearly circular orbit, approximately 30,000 light years from the center, taking approximately 226,000 years to complete an orbit, and that no galactic alignment with the “center” of the galaxy is imminent.
The theory of December 21, 2012, simply stated, is that the winter solstice sun is predicted to align with the “equator” of the Milky Way galaxy as a result of the precession of the equinoxes, or the wobbling of the earth on its axis. According to many scientists, the sun aligns with the galactic equator annually. However, what makes this event different is that the “winter solstice” sun will be aligning with the galactic equator. This event occurs only every 26,000 years, but is thought to be fairly uneventful. The total process takes approximately 36 years to complete; this cycle began in 1980 and will complete the cycle in 2016. Some scientists report that the direct alignment took place in 1999.
Many astrobiologists and scientists state that web sites and books promoting dire results are simply trying to earn a buck from all the doom and gloom these discussions precipitate. Still, others say the alignment has not yet taken place in this cycle, and with the increased solar activity occurring simultaneously, many catastrophic events could result. So, as usual, many opinions abound and the general public doesn’t know who to believe; although, it would more logical to heed the words of well-known and respected astrobiologists and astrophysicists.
Solar activity, however, is confirmed by all. It is also important to understand the role the sun may play in earthly events. According to NASA scientists, a new solar cycle is beginning evidenced by the appearance of a reversed polarity sunspot. This means that the polarity of the most recently discovered sunspot has an opposite polarity from the sunspots that preceded it, concluding a new cycle has begun. The beginning of Solar Cycle 24 is not an unusual event. Changes in solar cycles occur approximately every 11 years or so causing a rise in the sun’s solar activity, also known as solar flares. Sunspots are a signal to scientists that solar activity is on the rise; since 2008, this has been the case. It is interesting to note that the most intense solar activity, or peak in the current cycle, is predicted to occur between 2011 and 2012.
Documented predictions made by past civilizations, astronomers, and psychics of a major, planet changing event taking place in December of 2012 can also a bit unsettling to the public. The ancient Mayan civilization lived in Central America between 300 and 1200 AD and practiced exceptional astronomy and mathematics. Their recorded calendar does end on December 21, 2012. Even considering their adept studies of the heavens, many scientists agree that it would have been virtually impossible for the Mayans to predict the end of the world, and they actually don’t predict the end of the world; their calendar simply ends on that day. If the Mayan culture plotted the position of the stars and constellations, which many cultures have done in the past, it is obvious they would have noticed changes in the location of stars and constellations due to the one degree wobbling of the earth every 71.5 years, which, as noted previously, does change the earth’s physical relationship to other heavenly bodies. The ending of their calendar on a particular day could have merely signaled the end of a particular age.
The I Ching, known as the Book of Change, has been said to be the oldest book in the world hailing from the ancient Chinese culture in approximately 2800 BC. This book apparently maps time coincidently ending on December 21, 2012; however, the mathematical equations used to come to this conclusion are scientifically unfounded to date.
Of course, Nostradamus cannot be left out of this scenario. He too also predicted cataclysmic events to occur in 2012. He predicted many events; some happened, others did not.
The public should take note that the interpretation of ancient artifacts and documents can vary from one expert to the next. It is not that difficult to see what one wants to see and read between the lines making ancient documents relevant to the world today.
Possible Consequences
Will the earth be destroyed or will life as we know it be altered? Will technology merely need to repair damage to satellites and power grids? Will the earth be swallowed up into the black hole? Will anything happen at all?
The impending, intense solar cycle could interfere with satellite signals causing cell phone and cable use to be hindered or completed disabled until repairs can be made. This has been confirmed by NASA. As well, power grids providing electricity could be inoperative leaving large parts of the world without power for a short time. Solar flares have crippled power grids before, as recently as the late nineteen eighties, also confirmed by NASA.
The magnetic shifts of the North and South poles does happen but takes several thousands of years to complete the process, with relatively unnoticeably effects. Geological pole shifts, the North and South poles actually changing places in the span of a few days, would take a massive amount of energy. The earthly effects would be staggering, but no scientific data exists to preclude that is likely to happen.
In Conclusion:
It is safe to say that the winter solstice galactic alignment will continue to occur as it has every 26,000 years. It is safe to say that Solar Cycle 24 is beginning and will most likely peak around 2011-2012. It is safe to say that satellite communication could fail, weather patterns may be affected, but to assume the Earth will be pulled into a black hole or that the poles will geographically flip is a bit of a stretch. There is actually no point at all in worrying about it, spending all your money, digging a cave, or stockpiling ten years of supplies. The most that will probably happen will be that you wake on December 22 and not have a cell phone signal; God forbid.

However I should point out that they have a pretty poor record of predicting the future.
Their nobles lost control of the population when the God’s no longer listened to their requests for good crops, rains etc.
They completely missed the coming of the Spaniards. This was pretty unfortunate as millions died and their cultural heritage was pretty much wiped out. So why trust these prophecies people…. ????????

We’ve been hearing about the end of the world for quite some time, now, right? It might come by meteor; it may be the result of a nuclear war; it could be a slow but definite deterioration of our Ozone layer. Whatever the cause may (or may not) be, people are obsessed with the idea of the end of the world. What makes the Ancient Mayan predictions of doomsday any different from these other catastrophically deadly potentials? The date.

The difference with the Ancient Mayan prophecies, as opposed to other end of the world predictions, is a precise account of when life as we know it will cease to exist. No one can say exactly when or if a meteor will hit. We can only speculate as to when a nuclear war might erupt. We’re still learning about the Ozone layer and whether or not we can reverse the damage done, but we cannot say precisely if or when it will collapse. However, the Ancient Mayans pin-pointedly predicted one specific date, thousands of years into their own future, when we will face the end of the world as we know it. Furthermore, this date is frighteningly close: December 22, 2012.

How exactly did an ancient people prophesy such a future? The answer is in the codices, a collection of writings created by this past civilization, the most famous of which is the Dresden Codex.

The Dresden codex aimed its sights at the stars, the planets, the sun, the moon, and space-related phenomenon. In this hieroglyphic script, the Ancient Mayans used mathematical and astrological genius to formulate an advanced working of the calendar. Contrary to popular belief, the Ancient Mayans did not invent the calendar, but they did perfect it to such a degree that their calendar system measured time and planetary occurrences more accurately than the calendar we use today. They also are responsible for our current understanding of the zodiac, based on a 12-part division of the sky. If you wake up in the morning and read your horoscope, you can thank the Ancient Mayans. But who were these people, and why should we be concerned about their predictions for our future?

No one knows exactly when the Ancient Mayans began making their mark on history, but we do know they were most successful in Mesoamerica somewhere around 2600 BC. (4,607 years ago), and peaking at around A.D. 250 (1,757 years ago) in present day Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Western Honduras, El Salvador, and Northern Belize. Most archeological findings date the most significant productivity of the Ancient Mayans in what is known as the Classic Period, A.D. 250-900 (1,107 years ago). We also know that during their near five-thousand-year reign, the Ancient Mayans accomplished remarkable feats in the written language, mathematics, astronomy, astrology, art, architecture, agriculture, and much more.

The years between 2600 B.C. and 100 A.D. were, for the most part, the golden years for the Maya civilization. With the introduction of the Omelc civilization in 2000 B.C., Mayan culture expanded. Extensive trade routes were built, knowledge and goods exchanged, and farming was established throughout Maya regions. This is when writing was developed in Mesopotamia, when the first solar calendars were carved in stone, and when the Maya set their spiritual, religious, and political roots in a hierarchal system governed by nobles and kings. This is also the time when their greatest pyramids and observatories were created.

The Ancient Mayan structures were remarkable in their own right due to their seemingly perfect alignment, their awe-inspiring size, their attention to detail, the exquisite artwork and architecture, and the products they developed and learned to work within their buildings, such as plaster. Several of the buildings are even more mysterious in that they produce certain effects, such as the sound of a chirping bird, or the shadow of a snake slithering up their slopes during specific times of the year. But what’s even more astounding is that the Ancient Mayans created these elaborate pyramids and observatories without the use of metal tools!

Ancient Maya religions are still not completely understood, but it is clear that the Maya people honored, worshipped, and made sacrifices to many gods – gods that, unlike individual entities, are thought to have the ability to merge and morph with one another as needed or appropriate to portray differing aspects. The Mayans were also heavily founded in beliefs in the supernatural. Because the Mayans understood all things to work in cycles, good and evil were not set concepts, which could be how they justified, in part, their acts of human sacrifice.

Everything, to the Mayans, had a pattern of moving in cycles. This helped with their advancements in farming and their understanding of the movements of the heavens and the Earth. Combined, their knowledge of astrology, astronomy, mathematics, time, their spiritual and supernatural beliefs, as well as their understanding of cyclical patterns, is what led to the creation of the Dresden Codex.

The Maya didn’t just work with one calendar, but instead had a multitude of ways they dissected, analyzed, and measured time. They had two yearly cycles, one known as the Tzolkin, measuring 260 days; and the other being the Haab, of 360 days. These two calendars worked directly with the movements of Venus and Mars, and with a “special” number of 1,366,560 days, a number that is not yet fully understood by modern researchers. But then there was a third form of measuring time, and this third form is the one with which we’re most concerned. A person could easily spend ample time of their own trying to understand the complex intricacies of the Ancient Mayan calendars, but to suit the purpose of understanding the Dresden Codex in relation to doomsday predictions, we can simplify as follows, based on the third form of Ancient Mayan time measurement.

The Ancient Mayans began with a start date, known as the birth of Venus, which is understood as 3114 B.C, the beginning of time recorded. As with our calendars today, the Ancient Mayan calendars were divided into what can be identified as months and years. The months measured 20 days, and the years consisted of 360 days. The Ancient Mayan calendar then exceeded the calendars of today, grouping together even longer periods of time, the first being known as the kuton and measuring 7,200 days; and the second, called the baktun, measuring 144,000 days.

Another number relevant to the Mayans that we don’t yet fully understand is the number 13 (superstition, perhaps?). They believed that after 13 buktuns, each buktun measuring 144,000 days, would be the end of a cycle – or, as many of today’s time understand it, the end of the world. By doing the math, we are able to understand that the end of this time period translates to December 22, 2012. Some accounts suggest December 21, others pinpoint December 23, but that may depend largely on geographic location. Nonetheless, we are faced with potential drastic change in December of 2012. As of the writing of this article, according to the Dresden Codex, the end of the world is roughly five and a half years away.

No one disputes the advanced workings of the Ancient Mayan civilization. We’re all impressed with the knowledge they possessed and how they chose to apply that knowledge. However, how or where they gained such knowledge is open for debate, with theories ranging from simple and natural evolution, to involvement from alien beings. Adding to the mystery of this ancient people are findings such as the Crystal Skulls in locations close to Mayan ruins. These unexplained crystal skulls are said to possess certain metaphysical or paranormal attributes, such as psychic communications. Science is puzzled over the skulls because no one has yet been able to determine exactly how or when the skulls were created because they reflect absolutely no signs of tool markings. As with any unexplained, potentially paranormal phenomena, several theories have been laid out, including that the crystal skulls, once they’ve all been found and united, will unveil great knowledge capable of saving humankind. Naturally, it is suspected that the year 2012 may not be the end of the world, but may in fact be the end of the world as we know it, marking the beginning of a new way of life on earth.

Even though scientists and archeologists have learned a great deal about the Ancient Mayans, how and where they lived, and have been able to, in part, decipher the Dresden Codex, there are still many holes in the doomsday prediction pointing to 2012. One of the most important factors to keep in mind is that though several codices are believed to have existed, only a few of those remain – and even fewer are accessible to us. Many of the codices were lost or destroyed by time or conflict with other ancient civilizations. Others are currently protected as sacred text by the Elders in modern day Mayan cultures whom are not willing to share the extent of their knowledge. Taking this into consideration, we have to rationalize that we only have a small portion of the information on which the Ancient Mayans founded their belief systems and civilizations. We may have a list of ingredients, but we are lacking the full recipe! We cannot logically reason that we can formulate a crystal clear understanding based on a portion of ancient information taken out of context.

Will the crystal skulls found around Ancient Mayan ruins come together alas in 2012, shining upon us their wisdom and glory, paving the way to a new way of life? Is 2012 the date the alien nations will reunite on our planet to share with us their technology? Is the world itself destined to die five years from now? Or are we setting ourselves into a panic based on insubstantial evidence? Only time will tell.

According to the legend a tall white man who came from the sea provided the with their knowledge of astronomy. The Mayans knew an incredible amount of information about the solar system that they credited directly to this man. The Mayans indicate that the world will be destroyed by water. Is this great flood going to occur after a comet impact? By watching our video collection you will learn a lot more about the Mayans.
