Something I’ve been wondering about…well, just recently I guess. Is why were the Mayans so obsessed with time. They made this really incredible 3-d version of a calendar in a pyramid and had it set up so the summer solstice allows the shadows to make a snakes body come from the top of the pyramid down to the bottom where a snakes head is and then this supposedly represents their God coming to earth and going to the underground…or something.
But what if they were so obsessed with astronomy and the stars that they actually made a warning of a meteor strike? The snake could be a symbol a meteor coming and striking the earth couldn’t it?
But anyway..back to what I was originally getting at.
The Mayans were obsessed with time. But isn’t time a concept created by mankind? In the larger scale of the Universe does time exist in the same manner that we have come to know it?
God is outside of time and isn’t limited to our belief or our concept of the passing of time. So by stating that the world would end on December 21st of 2012 weren’t the Mayans just basically full of crap? I mean, what makes what they…these jungle dwelling natives who believed human sacrifice was a means of feeding the sun to give it sustenance to make its travel back around the earth anymore informed about what is going to happen on 2012 then say, anyone on the street with a laptop and an imagination?
Personally, I feel that 2012 is just a number. It’s a way to get people to buy merchandise and register with forums but other then that it’s bogus and nothing will happen simply because it’s the more logical choice to take.
If Jesus would have actually said to his followers…verily verily I say unto you I will return at 3 p.m. on December 25th 2010 for a surprise birthday party. I would have probably said bullsh*t you’re a false prophet. But he never came right out and pinpointed a time for his second coming. He just said I’m going to come back and when I do the world will end…and a new world will begin. That leaves a lot of room for speculation, sure. But then he tossed in references to pay attention to the changes of the earth…increase in earthquakes, the tossing and rolling of the seas, volcanoes, floods, economic downfall, famine, disease..
and even said to watch for signs in the heavens. He even went further to give us information regarding the leadership of the world etc.etc.
So even though he didn’t actually use time as a basic reference for his predictions for the end times, as the Mayans did, he did give us the clues to his return. Not June 5th of 2098 at noon. But when the earth begins to go through these changes…
Logic dictates this would be a more sincere prediction to look forward to coming true then that of blood thirsty savages with the ability to make a calendar.

The Mayans also believed the sun wouldn’t rise without a blood sacrifice, they been gone for how long now and the sun still keeps rising without there sacrifices, so what does that tell you. Every one is so rapped up in the gloom and doom to stop and think, maybe the calender resets to age one after 2012. The Christians destroyed the knowledge of the Mayans to truly say what the calender meant.
By “Christians” Im sure you mean Spanish.
By “Christians” Im sure you mean Spanish.
No, I’m pretty sure he meant “Christians”. They happened to be Spaniards, but what they did they did in the name of the Pope and the Christian Church.
What was your point, that another nation (say, France or Italy) would have done things differently? That’s pretty doubtful, considering the times. Remember, the Vatican launched the Crusades.
Thank you Calthos, I’m sure 70×7 knew what i was saying but rather split hairs because he doesn’t have a leg to stand on with the dribble he spits out.
I’m still waiting for 70×7 to answer my question….Is it because you’re just totally brainwashed or you one who benefits monetarily from the brainwashed Jesus sheep?
Come on 70×7 give us a honest answer for once, or are you to scared.

My point is that it seems very easy to place blame on a group you inherently oppose.
Im not saying the Crusades did not exist or many people have been killed according to religion (not just Christianity), and I am not saying that it was right. Afterall, murder is in one of the commandments!
Although, there probably were religious reasonings for their actions, the pope’s directive was not the only one. The Mayans had riches that the “Christians” were also interested in possesing.
A fine point: Chichen Itza is not named Chichen Itza for no reason at all. It was built by the Itza, not the classic Maya, and for the Itza arrival there see my book “Man and Impact in the Americas” page 228.
That fine point made, there had been two recent massive impact events in the Americas, one
at Rio Cuarto in 2,360 BCE, while the other produced the Great Atlantic Impact Mega-Tsunami.
If you want to know what the Maya were thinking, then read my book. The Human sacrifices were made to keep the sky and Earth separate, not to “feed the sun” as you put it, other than to keep cometary dust from obscuring the sun.
I think you’re right about some people just wanting to exploit peoples’ fears.
If you wish to discuss questions of scripture, may I suggest the ai renewal list? There are plenty of scriptural experts there who can provide you with expert information, and might do so, if you ask them politely.

maybe they just stopped making the calender and it resets after the 5th cycle? plus the earth didn’t start when the Mayan calender did.
Using modern science i bet it would be simple to prove that mankind are really descendants of dinosaurs and the world is square. So yeah,I guess 2012 could be the end.And monkeys might fly out my butt.
lol
I personally think that december 21 (2012) will be a strange day but not the last one for mankind. Here are a few questions you could ask yourself:
1-Did the world start when the Mayan calendar did?
2-Every religion mankind follow does not have a specific date for the end of the world, is this belief so strong that only THEY have a specific date?
3-Every religion mankind follows never mentioned the Mayan calender, was it because it was considered nonsense? (which it is) or because it was so frightening they didn’t want to mention it?
Decide for your selves.
yet you beleive in god
So what from this calendar has actually come true???
2012 is a year, not a day. If you can’t even get the title to this article right, how is anyone supposed to be able to believe that what you’re saying is true.
